The longer time that visitors stay on your site, the more they come to know and trust your brand. In the long run, their trust in you can lead to a boost in your revenue. Read along to get tips for boosting your website traffic.

1. Optimize your website for search engines

First things first – you need to direct people to your website! Using the right keywords in your content is essential for attracting relevant visitors to your website.

Here are a few tips for SEO best practice, that can help drive more traffic to your website:

Target the right keywords:
You must start your content creation by doing keyword research. Basically, you need to understand which words your target audience uses to search for information. According to Google, content relevance is one of the most important factors used for ranking search results. So, it truly is important for you and your business.

There are numerous tools that can provide an overview of keywords that your target audience uses to search for information. A keyword overview can help you identify the words to use in your content to appear in your audience’s search results.

A few examples of keyword tools are Moz Keyword explorer, Semrush, Google Keyword Planner and Free Keyword Research tool, to name a few.

Another approach is to brainstorm topics that your target audience is interested in. For instance, for a business selling outdoor equipment relevant topics could be:

Hiking

Camping

Climbing

Outdoor equipment

When you have listed the most relevant topics, type them into Google, one at a time. In the bottom of your search results, you will see a section called “People also search for”, that tells you what other people are searching for. This is Google’s way of assuring you, that these are popular searches related to this topic.

Once you have tested each of your topics on Google, you can incorporate the keywords in your content in a meaningful way.

Make it easy to read your content:
Keep it simple! Use language that everyone can understand. To increase
comprehension of your content, keep sentences and paragraphs on the shorter
side. And make sure to use a font size that people can read.

Lastly, you should always use headers to structure your text. Headers are also an opportunity to incorporate the relevant keywords you have found in your keyword search.

Use short descriptive URLs
Have you ever visited a website with a suspicious-looking URL filled with numbers and symbols? It does not exactly scream “legitimate website”.

That’s why it is important to customize your URLs by adding the most important keywords in your URL-slug (the last part of the URL).

New descriptive URL: jsworldmedia.com/boost-traffic-on-your-website

2. Userfriendly and clear navigation

There is (almost) nothing worse than visiting a website with zero sense of navigation or user-friendliness. Making it easy for visitors to find what they need, also increases the likelihood of them staying longer.

Here are a few tips to ensure user-friendliness:

User experience focus: make it easy to find content through clear and intuitive navigation.

A logical structure: ensure that categories and subcategories of content are easy to understand.

Visual cues: use clear visual cues such as icons, labels etc. to guide users – e.g., a shopping cart icon for purchasing, a progress bar that shows the user the different steps in a sign-up form, or a clearly defined button for “submit”.

3. Use social media to guide visitors to your website

One way to attract visitors is by using social media posts with teasers for your website content. Lead your target audience to your website with the promise of relevant content that gives them value in some way (and deliver on that promise).

Remember, that you also need to engage with your followers on social media as well. Respond to comments, give a “like” if people share your content or even host Q&A session where your audience can get answers to their most pressing questions about your brand. This is also an opportunity to throw in a link for your website, when it makes sense.

Another option is to utilize paid advertising on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Here you can drive targeted traffic by choosing your objectives for your campaign, for instance link clicks redirecting visitors to your website, and measure your success afterwards.

4. Create content that engages your visitors

Write great content! It might seem obvious, but that does not make it any less important.

Knowing your target audience helps you create content that keeps them on your website. For instance, you could write blogposts about topics that your target audience is interested in.

Let’s use the examples from the keyword search. You now know that people who googles hiking, might also be interested in content about trekking vs. hiking. This is your cue to make a blogpost about the difference between the two, and equipment needed for each of the activities. You could also do a post about the most popular or beautiful hiking trails in your region or country.
